MARK 4:14 | God works through His Word. PERIOD. This is HOW God works (see Genesis 1, noticing "And God SAID,"). So when He works, He is sowing the Word. He scatters it everywhere. One of the great mysteries of God is that, now, in these last days, He uses US to scatter it! See Isaiah 55:6-11, John 1:1-3, 14, 17-18, Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8 and 2:42, Romans 6:3-5, 1 Corinthians 8:6 and 10:16-17.
MARK 4:15 | God is indeed all powerful, He is indeed all good, and yet evil exists. But this is no mere philosophy exercise, this is real life. People are hurting, they are lost, they need help. Because God is all powerful, and He is all good, He will not conquer us nor will He leave us to die. Instead, He Himself came to save us! See Ephesians 2:1-10!
MARK 4:16-19 | Some teach that because God is sovereign, there is no free will. This teaching indicates that God saves and God damns (sometimes known as the Calvinist view). Others teach that we have completely free will and every thing comes down to our choice (sometimes known as the Arminian view). Either of these views can be dangerous to our faith because they rely on our reason and each view has to ignore or delete clear passages in Scripture.
The Bible teaches that God saves and, inexplicably, some Humans reject Him. This is because while we do have will, since the events of Genesis 3, we have a "bound will" (see Romans 7:7-25) and we struggle in our choices, needing God to save us when we cannot! Just a few examples of this tension taught in Scripture:
God Saves: John 3:3-6, 15:16, Ephesians 1:3-10, Romans 9:16, 1 Cor. 2:14
Humans Reject: Mark 3:5-6, Matthew 23:37, 1 Timothy 1:18-19, & 4:1-5
MARK 4:20 | Allow your reason and logic to sit just under the mystery of God's Word. The Word is Here. Now. Hear it. Receive it! Believe it! Believe HIM! And then you will see! Because He loves you. HE SAID SO! See Romans 8!
