The Temple of God

THE THIRD DAY

John 2:1 || John grabs our attention right away. This is an important story. The “third day” draws us to the empty tomb, the wine narrative reminds us of when, “new wine will drip from the mountains and flow from all the hills,” (See Dig Deeper Below). This event in Cana is a preview of the New Creation!

THE HOUR NOT YET COME

John 2:4-5 || Jesus, God become human, is reminding His mom: If we do this, it will reveal Who I AM. He knows it will light the fuse: It will inaugurate His ministry and begin His collision course with the Religious Leaders. She doesn’t blink: “Do whatever He tells you!”

THE FIRST SIGN

John 2:11 || This beginning, showing Who He is, created faith. True then, True now. Faith IN HIM. Not in our “religious-ness”!

THE THREE DAYS

John 2:19 || The Religious Leaders asked for a sign to prove His authority, and here He goes with a continuous refutation of their religiosity. They are staring God Almighty in the face, demanding that He conform to their religion! He upends all their notions by declaring He Himself to be the Temple. Jesus, who is the Lamb of God (that is, the Temple Sacrifice) is also the Temple of God, the place we go to Worship! The object of Worship is also the center of Worship! And He melts away all of our conceptions by replacing “religion” with FAITH.
