Firepower 2019

Acts 2:16-17 (Joel 2:28a) | Don’t miss what Pentecost is about! God’s Spirit came DOWN. For ALL of us! This changed the world then and continues to do so! See Mark 1:1-8, John 14:25-27, 20:19-23, Acts 9:31 & 10:39-46.

Acts 2:18 (Joel 2:28-29) | Before Pentecost, there were priests and prophets. Now God’s Word has been unleashed! All of God’s people speak His Word! Remember PROPHESY doesn’t just mean to “foretell” His Word (which means to tell the future like Isaiah 53 or here in Joel 2) but it also and more commonly means to “forthtell” His Word which is to proclaim what is true, like when any of us might say: “Jesus loves you!” See Romans 12:1-8, 1 Corinthians 14:3 & 14:36-40.

Acts 2:21…36 | Here, the Apostle Peter highlights that Jesus is Lord, which is to say that He is the God of the Old Testament! When we cry the name of Jesus, we are crying the name of Yahweh! See Philippians 2:1-11.

Zechariah 4:6 | The FIREPOWER is never about our might (Hebrew: “chayil”) or about God forcing anyone by His power (Hebrew: “koach”) but always by His Spirit (Hebrew: “ruach”)! See Romans 8:1-3.

John 16:13-14 | Jesus promises us how this will work: The Holy Spirit guides us into all truth, by taking what is from Jesus and making it known to us! In other words: The Spirit always points us to Jesus to help us keep our eyes fixed upon Him! See Romans 8:15-27 and Hebrews 12:1-3.

Acts 2:42…47 | So what does the “FIREPOWER” look like? Devoting ourselves to the apostles’ teaching (growing in God’s Word!), to the fellowship (being strengthened by one another!), to the breaking of bread (participating in the very Body of Christ!) and to prayer (the most powerful action we can take!). Study Acts 2:42 this week and pray how we can grow in these words!
