Both a question and a statement, “Who Is the Enemy” is a message we learn from sitting at the feet of Jesus as He teaches His famous Sermon on the Mount. While some people may measure their righteousness by what they DO, Jesus measures by what is on our hearts. He minces no words, so we need His Word more than ever!
The story of the Bible is personal. A Personal God seeks to give life to His children, and when they go astray, He is the father that is out on the road looking for them. He is the One who saves them. Not just for a fluffy bunny salvation, but for a fully physical, fully spiritual, fully eternal life!
It is critical to emphasize we do not just talk about Jesus, we proclaim Him as the Crucified One…FOR YOU! This means the very One who was acting on Page One is the One Who came to earth to save us! This truth is an utter scandal to those who seek to make themselves righteous and it is utter stupidity to those who seek to define the world for themselves. But for us, FOR YOU, this message is the POWER OF GOD!
What is Jesus to you? Not who is He, but what is He to you? Is He life or is He death to you? That’s what Simeon is saying. This little baby, the Glory of Israel and the Light of the world, is also the great divider of humanity. You’re either on one side or on the other regarding Jesus. No one stays in the middle forever.
So what do we do with the time between the “Now” and the “Not Yet” when Jesus comes back? For starters, He has “entrusted His property” to us! What does that mean an how do we participate with Him in the advance of His Kingdom? Spoiler Alert: it is not about “how much” nor “compared to others” but rather according to the Grace given to us!!
